Why Sweden Made Me Fall in Love With Slow Travel

June 25, 2026

Before moving here, I was the kind of traveler who tried to see as much as possible in as little time as possible. Weekend trips with six stops, alarms at 5am, running between train platforms. I thought that was what traveling was supposed to look like.
Sweden changed that. Partly because of the culture — there’s a reason lagom exists — and partly because being an exchange student means you actually live somewhere instead of just visiting. You find the quiet lake outside the city. You learn which bakery has the best kanelbullar. You stop performing tourism and start just… being somewhere.
Now when I travel, I try to stay longer and do less. One city for a long weekend beats three cities in a rush every single time. You actually remember it.
If you’re a student here, use that. You already live the slow travel life — you just might not have realized it yet.
