Hi, I’m Britta. I’m in my second year of studying Design + Change here at Linnaeus University in Sweden. I’m originally from Bonn, a smaller city in Germany.
I did have a little bit of a rocky start to my academic career. After my high school graduation, I took a gap year, worked, and travelled in Australia. Back then, I was really interested in Haute Couture and Fashion Design, so in 2024, I started studying Fashion Design in Paris. After a full year, I had a change of heart and decided to take another gap year to do a full-time fashion internship. During my year in Berlin, I researched design degrees. Sweden had always been on my radar, as I knew that the country was very eager to incorporate sustainability into its university programmes. I looked up several Fashion and Design programmes and applied. Luckily, Lnu was the first university I got accepted to!
I really love my programme for the variety of topics we are taught to deal with as aspiring designers. From making 3D objects to practising social design by doing interventions on campus, it never gets boring! I also love how supportive the teachers are and how much of my own ideas and projects I can bring into each module.
When I’m not working on anything academic, I really enjoy spending time with my friends. It’s so nice that the majority of students live on campus, it’s so much easier to socialise when you only live five minutes away. I’m also active in the Arts and Humanities Faculty’s Student Association, Klubb💜. As Vice President, I co-organise events for our student life outside of lectures 🙂
Living in Sweden has been a journey. I loved experiencing my first Swedish summer; the long, sunny days are truly magical! I struggled a bit with getting used to the darkness during winter, but I figured out that staying active and social helps to look past the gloomy days 🙂 And on dark days, with a bit of luck, you can even see the Northern Lights over our Växjö Lake ✨
I hope you enjoyed this little insight into my life and my first blog post, let me know in the comments 🫶🏼
Till next time, take care 💗
Yours
Britta
